The John Smith Centre is delighted to be taking part in the Festival of Politics 2018 by presenting:

Heroes to Zeros – Portrayal of People in Public Life

Saturday 21 October, 17:30 to 19:00, Scottish Parliament

Stella Creasy MP

In public life, it seems the journey from being a figure of admiration to antipathy has never been shorter.  The growth of personality politics means politicians can become overnight celebrities and yet many also face unacceptable levels of anger and abuse.

The John Smith Centre presents a discussion on what has gone wrong with the public discourse around politics and politicians, and what can be done about it.  Join Stella Creasy MP, whose ‘Twitter troll’ was famously jailed, our Chair David Dinsmore, former Editor of the Sun, and our panel Humza Yousaf MSP and Paul Sinclair, former Special Advisor to discuss what's it like to enter public service today, and what advice would practitioners give to those thinking about following in their footsteps.

Tickets for this event can be purchased on the Festival of Politics website.
