Research interests

My research interests lie within the active Sun and Space Weather. I am particularly interested in the acceleration of energetic electrons in the solar atmosphere and their subsequent transport through the heliosphere. I use high-performance numerical simulations in combination with observations in radio and X-ray wavelengths and in-situ measurements near 1 AU to further understand the important physics that governs the acceleration and transport of solar energetic electrons. Understanding how the Sun accelerates particles is not only important for us here on Earth but helps to understand the broader astrophysical acceleration that occurs throughout the Universe. Electron transport through the solar system involves fundamental beam-plasma interactions, relevant to laboratory plasma physics. Decoupling transport effects from acceleration characteristics allows energetic electrons to become a diagnostic tool of the energetic Sun and the solar system environment.
