We have gained significant new funding and opportunities through the new Scottish Universities Physics Alliance (SUPA) where six Scottish Universities have come together to form a research alliance in Physics. This provides substantial funding via an agreed Scottish strategy, an inter-institutional management structure, and co-ordinated promotion and pursuit of excellence. Particle physics is one of SUPA's five key research themes. This enhances our co-operation with Edinburgh in both theory and experiment and ensures that we can meet our priorities in key strategic areas. This builds on our strong track record in the area of detector development, with our SUPA colleagues in Edinburgh, and the construction of integrated detector systems:
- Development and construction of ATLAS forward SCT modules
- ATLAS SCT endcap macro-assembly
- Development and implementation of LHCb vertex detector alignment strategy
- Development and construction of the LHCb RICH photo detectors
We are also involved with colleagues from the Institute for Gravitational Research (IGR) and the UK Astronomy Technology Centre in the SUPA TEOPS Initiative (Technology for Experimental and Observational Physics in Scotland).
