The Polish Ambassado Dr Arkady Rzegocki met with the Principal Professor Muscatelli as well as academic  staff and students during his visit to Glasgow University in March. He also delivered a lecture in which he emphasized the strong democratic links that have existed for centuries between Poland and Scotland, some 30,000 Scots having left Scotland in the 17th century to settle in what was then the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, a country based on the rule of law, respect for different ethnic and religious groups and for political liberties, thus anticipating the values of today's European Union. He delivered a strong message of continued solidarity and future co-operation between Scotland and Poland, despite the Brexit vote, and welcomed Principal Anton Muscatelli's emphais on the contribution of Polish students to Scottish society and the importance of sustaining the presence of EU students and staff at the Universit‌y of Glasgow. He also recalled the difficult times of World War Two, which forged a strong Polish-British friendship as brothers-in-arms that continues to this day.
