There are a number of other sources of help for your English language and your study skills within the University (for further information, see Links):

English Language

English Conversation Programme

  • run by the Student Volunteer Service
  • pair up with a native speaker or attend a language café

Language Exchanges

  • see the noticeboard on the ground floor of the Hetherington Building (please see the Language Centre Library librarian if you wish to post your own notice)

International Students' Partners

  • free classes for partners of international students on University degrees
  • part of the support provided by the University's International Family Network

Student Learning Service (SLS)

Located in the MacMillan Reading Room. There is an Effective Learning Adviser for each main subject area; they offer:

  • workshops for all students on taught programmes
  • one-to-one appointments

College of Social Science, International Officer

  • workshops & one-to-one appointments
  • Preparing for Study web pages with Student & Staff Views (quizzes, video diaries, discussions & other resources)

Peer Proofreader Register

  • a register of proofreaders accessible via Moodle, which aims to correct common language errors; for current students only
