Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health Medical Student Prize
This prize is advertised annually by the RCPCH and open to final year medical students for nomination to attend their annual conference. Students wishing to apply should submit a personal statement (maximum 1000 words) together with a supporting letter of reference provided by a RCPCH member. Further details of the prize can be obtained from Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health Closing date for applications for 2018 has now passed.
Yorkhill Portfolio Prize
This prize of £750, and Yorkhill Medal, is awarded annually for the best paediatric portfolio by a final year MB ChB student. Runner up prize is £250. An example of a previous portfolio submission is available to view for guidance on the Year 4/5 Child Health moodle site. Closing date for applications is the first Friday in May each year.
Yorkhill Essay Prize
This prize of of £750 is awarded annually for best essay of 2500 words on any aspect of paediatrics submitted by an MB ChB student in year 1 or 2. Runner up prize is £250. Closing date for applications is the first Friday in May each year.
Hall Prize In Child Health
This prize of £500 is awarded annually on the recommendation of the Samson Gemmell Professor of Child Health on the basis of the class examinations and the final professional examination in Child Health for an MB ChB year 5 viva.
Weill Cornell Medical College, New York - Medical Student Elective Award
This award by the St Andrew's Society of New York and the Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity, supports two summer placements in paediatrics on the medical elective programme at Weill Cornell Medical College, New York. Applications are made by submitting a CV, together with a 500 word statement to Nicola Cumming. Closing date for applications is the first Friday in November in the year preceding the summer elective.
Harry Stewart Hutchinson Prize
This prize is awarded biennially by Senate and is open to medical clinicians who have graduated not more than ten years from a medical school within the commonwealth. Applicants should submit an original piece of research work in a branch of medical science related to children, together with a short personal statement. Submissions will be judged by the Samson Gemmell Professor of Child Health and a Senior Clinician in Pathology. Closing date for next round of applications is the last Friday in March 2019.
Yorkhill Prize for Postgraduate Research
A first prize of £750 and second prize of £250 will be awarded annually for excellence in the area of paediatrics, for a successfully completed research or audit project in which the author is named first on a peer-reviewed paper in press or published within the year preceding the application. Prize winner will be determined by the Samson Gemmell Professor of Child Health. Closing date for 2018 applications is the last Friday in September.
