Pollution of groundwater is a serious environmental issue. Together with collaborators from industry, researchers in the Statistics and Data Analytics group have developed statistical modelling and visualisation tools used to develop a user-friendly software application called GWSDAT. GWSDAT has been used to analyse borehole measurements and estimate pollution levels through spatiotemporal maps, at many worldwide sites. The insight gained has led to decisions and better targeted interventions which have improved outcomes and lead to signifcant cost savings. A new version of GWSDAT is now also being used to study reclamation of contaminated land.
