Biography

Dr Stephanie Morand is a cognitive neuroscientist with a strong interest in brain oscillations and how they drive visual perception and cognition.

A lecturer in neuroscience in the School of Life Sciences since 2015, Dr Morand originally joined the University of Glasgow in 2008 as part of the Institute of Neuroscience and Psychology (INP)/School of Psychology.

Prior to arriving in Scotland, Stephanie gained a PhD in Neuroscience from University of Grenoble (France), had a postdoctoral research fellowship (personal research fellowship founded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, 2001-2003) at the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging & Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA), and four years (2003-2007) in the direction of the Cognitive Neuro-rehabilitation EEG lab at the University Hospital of Geneva.

Research interests

Stephanie is active in both scientific and pedagogical research.

Current scientific research:

  • The role of iconic memory in consciousness
  • Alpha brain oscillations in temporal framing and visual attention
  • Interfering with visual awareness using non-invasive brain stimulation

Current pedagogical research:

  • Studying the interaction between postgraduate student learning and supervisory style in student satisfaction and successful PhD completion
  • Development of a strategic plan to enhance Assessment and Feedback practice in undergraduate years in the School of Life Sciences (promoting metacognitive skills).
