This 12 month Masters-level research project will focus on the integration of landscape and artefactual data, alongside historical and environmental information to analyse cultural connectivity. The case study material will be drawn from the ongoing work of the National Science Foundation funded Sirwan Regional Project, an international research project investigating the Upper Diyala River Valley and its relationship with Mesopotamia and the Zagros highlands.

Eligibility

The successful candidate will have a strong first degree in archaeology (a 2:1 Honours degree or above - or equivalent), a solid foundation in GIS or network analysis, and be confident working with digital data and software. A background in the archaeology of the ancient Near East is desirable, but not essential.

Funding details

The studentship will cover Home/EU tuition fees (£4,260) and a £5,000 stipend towards living expenses.

  • A transcript of qualifications to date (and anticipated results if candidates are still studying for a degree)
  • An example of scholarly work up to 5000 words in length (e.g. a full essay or dissertation chapter) 
  • 2 academic references
