Health Foundation project

The MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit is working with the Health Foundation on a new independent review of health inequalities and health determinants in Scotland to provide a detailed analysis of health trends and the wider factors that influence people’s health.

The project, "Health inequalities in Scotland report: epidemiological evidence", will draw upon existing published data and provide in depth case studies.

Previous reports on health inequalities in the UK have been largely England-centric so there is a need for more local-level consideration of health inequalities, as demonstrated in reports for Wales, the North of England and Manchester. This project will be part of a wider programme of work and the Unit’s approach and findings will be coordinated with three separate workstreams, focusing on policies (led by the Fraser of Allander Institute), stakeholder involvement, and deliberative approaches with the public.
