Research title: Title: Evidence for recent water on Mars from the shergottite meteorites: Geological, palaoclimatological and astrobiological implications.
Áine is a third year PhD student studying Planetary Science and Astrobiology. She uses cutting edge techniques at labs across the UK and in the USA to search for organic matter in martian meteorites. She uses Raman and X-ray spectroscopy to locate and determine the structure of martian carbon, as well as chromatography-mass spectrometry to further characterise the material. The aim of Áine’s project is to help determine the source of martian carbon, and to evaluate analysis techniques, ready for Mars sample return. Áine also volunteers for UKSEDS, the UK’s national student space society, through which she helps young pepole, students, and graduates with their space careers.
