Engineers are required to be effective communicators, whether it be in discussion with fellow colleagues or in a presentation to clients or senior management. Having the right vocabulary and using the correct terminology in engineering and business contexts are also very important.

  • How effectively are you able to communicate your ideas? Consider how well you cope in different situations, such as discussions with your tutor, proposing a concept to a group or making a presentation in front of your class.
  • Have you experienced a situation in which your communication skills have let you down? What went wrong and what have you learnt from it?
  • What have you done to develop your communication skills? Have you condiered getting involved in tutoring, drama or debating?
