Oliver Higgins and Victor Jalil Ochoa Gutierrez were selected for the final of Glasgow University's 3MT® competition. Oliver was awarded second place with his presentation of his research on turning a smartphone into a scanning microscope with advanced capabilities to diagnose parasitic diseases in low-resource settings. Victor boldly inspired the audience to think about cultural bias in physics experiments, aiming to develop a new pulse oximeter that is not biased to specific skin tones.

Scottish Edge, the UK’s largest funding competition for small businesses, awarded Nebu-Flow, a University of Glasgow spin-out, the £125,000 Higgs EDGE Award for science, technology and engineering, for its novel technology of aerosol pulmonary drug delivery.

Dr. Cristina Gonzalez-Garcia has been recently awarded the New Investigator Award from the EPSRC, as her first grant. This three-year research project, in the area of healthcare technologies, will aim to develop “New bioactive polysaccharide-based hydrogels for growth factors delivery during tissue repair”.
