Professor Robert Hadfield of the School of Engineering has won a prestigious Royal Society Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship.  Robert is an international expert in superconducting single-photon detectors, the world's most sensitive detectors for infrared light.  These devices underpin a range of emerging quantum technologies from quantum secure communications to dose monitoring for laser cancer treatment.  He has led the School's Division of Electronics and Nanoscale Engineering since 2014 overseeing a period of significant renewal and progress.  This Fellowship will enable him to concentrate full time on research for the coming year.  Robert says 'I am delighted to have received this Fellowship.  I am looking forward to getting back in the lab and contributing to the next phase of the UK National Quantum Technologies programme'.
