Issued: Thu, 18 Dec 2014 13:57:00 GMT
The School of Engineering is delivering research excellence that has economic and societal impact, addressing large-scale challenges including space exploration, unconventional energy, health and security. In the latest research assessment (REF 2014), 95% of our research has been judged to be “internationally excellent” or “world-leading”, placing us 4th in the UK across all the Engineering disciplines, having submitted 91% of our staff to the assessment process. This latest assessment confirms The University of Glasgow’s position as the top Engineering institution in Glasgow and the West of Scotland, and one of the leading Engineering institutions nationally.
Our research impact is exemplified by:
- Scottish Power Electronics and Electric Drives (SPEED). Our world-leading software that has helped in the design of thousands of new motors, enabling the manufacture of millions of machines across a range of industrial sectors.
- Gold Standard Simulations Ltd (GSS). Formed to commercialise the advanced simulation tools developed in the School of Engineering’s Device Modelling Group. This spin out company is developing world-leading technology that could save the semiconductor industry billions of pounds by predicting how performance will be affected in future generations of miniature transistors.
