The Equality Unit’s Athena SWAN Charter was launched in 2005 to 'encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in higher education and research.' The School of Engineering is dedicated to upholding the principles set out in this Charter.
Staff Survey 2018
The Head of School and the Athena SWAN committee invite you to take part in our School wide staff survey in preparation for our Silver application in 2019. Our new Action Plan will rely heavily on a snapshot of current working practices within the School and we therefore require a high return rate.
The School has a strong desire to support staff who take parental leave and to ensure that support is available to minimise the long-term impact that this can have on their academic output. The Rowntree Fellowship provides up to £10k to be used as they choose to maintain their career trajectory following parental leave. This might include travel to develop new or reinvigorate research collaborations, conference attendance or to supplement an RA position. Please see our case studies for more information.
The Fellowship is open to all staff who have taken a career break for the purposes of parental leave lasting for a minimum of 4 months.
Applications should provide information on what the funding will be used for and how it will contribute to an academic’s career following such leave.
