What does a Student Support Officer do?

I’m Kirsteen Fraser, the Student Support Officer for the School of Education.

As your SSO,  I work closely with my colleagues in Student Services, and other areas of the University to improve the accessibility of support and welfare provisions available to all students studying with us in the School.

I work closely with the School of Education’s Chief Advisor, our disability coordinator and the learning and teaching directors across the School and currently I am leading the development of the School’s student-led Peer Support Network and the School of Education Student Support Network.

Student Support Officers are the first point of contact for an array of questions you might have. These could include, but are not limited to advice and information regarding:

  • finances
  • accommodation
  • personal problems
  • careers information
  • study support
  • good cause claims
  • accessing the counselling services
  • accessing support for a disability

As part of my role, you'll see me at a number of events to support student wellbeing, help you build connections and make friends while encouraging the growth and development of the School of Education’s student community with my colleagues based in the School of Education and wider Student Services

I am passionate about supporting students and making sure you get the most of your student experience at Glasgow and I look forward to meeting and welcoming you to Team UofG!
