After two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, the British Association for International and Comparative Education (BAICE) finally welcomed colleagues from across the UK and the world to an in-person conference. The conference was held at the University of Edinburgh between 13th and 15th of September 2022.
The theme of the conference was ‘Partnerships in Education: collaboration, co-operation, co-optation’. As the importance and number of partnerships are growing in order to address global education challenges and achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4, delegates were invited to explore ways of effective, post/de-colonial, and ethical multi-actor partnerships and collaborations across levels and diverse contexts.
Glasgow’s School of Education had a large and strong representation at the conference. The group consisted of established and emerging scholars working in the field of international and comparative education, all of whom have conducted research and worked in partnership with diverse actors and stakeholders worldwide.
The picture below shows our colleagues enjoying the last day of the conference. The photo was taken by Asif Bayezid, a GLOBED master’s student, who supported the conference as a volunteer.

Prof Michele Schweisfurth acted as BAICE Co-Opted Exec Member and Dr Yulia Nesterova – as Co-convenor for the theme ‘Global-local (dis)connections in education partnerships’ and as a sponsorship lead. Asif Bayezid, Bahar Cemre Karaagacli, Grace Barrett supported the organisers as University of Glasgow volunteers, funded through the Education Leadership and Policy Research and Teaching Group.
The School of Education also co-sponsored the Gala Dinner for 200 delegates who enjoyed amazing vegan food, drinks, and Ceilidh.
