In 2017 Aarhus is the European Capital of Culture and from 26 to 29 October this Danish city hosted the International Children’s Literature Hay Festival in the DOKK1 library.  One of the events included a seminar hosted by the Centre for Children’s literature and Media in Aarhus University: “Across Borders: Contemporary Fiction for Children and Young Adults”. Authors, illustrators and academics presented to an audience of around 140 teachers, librarians and other professionals. The keynote was delivered by Evelyn Arizpe of the University of Glasgow, with the title “Travelling (with) Picturebooks: Children and Books Crossing Borders” and presented some of the research conducted by the Children’s Literature and Literacies team on picturebooks related to the theme of migration and the response of children and young people to these texts.
