Saturday 2 June 2018

Bute Hall

(University Avenue)

The Right Honourable Nicola Sturgeon MSP

First Minister of Scotland

We are pleased to announce that First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, will deliver the 2018 Cardinal Winning Lecture on the morning of Saturday 2nd June 2018. The lecture will take place in the Bute Hall, University Avenue, Glasgow, G12 8QQ. Mass will precede the lecture (9.00 am) and will take place in the University Chapel.

2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the agreement between Church and state with regard to the provision of Catholic Education in Scotland and therefore it is fitting that the First Minister will be delivering the lecture, which will recognise the centenary of the landmark 1918 Act.

The Cardinal Winning Lecture, formerly known as the Catholic Education Week Lecture, was established in 1993 by the Department of Religious Education in St. Andrew's College. The lecture was instituted to showcase leading Catholic and Christian thinkers interested in education, Catholic education and the public space. On a number of occasions leading politicians have been invited to deliver the lecture in relation to important events or anniversaries affecting the Catholic community. We hope you will be able to join us for what promises to be a memorable event. The format of the event is as follows:

9.00 am Mass (University Chapel)
9.40 am Tea/Coffee  (Hunter Halls)
10.15 am Guests to be seated (Bute Hall)
10.30 am Lecture followed by questions and answers
11.30 am Prayer
11.40 am Finish
