Attentiveness, receptivity and detachment - Kathleen Jamie's
My project will examine the ways in which attentiveness, receptivity and detachment function as part of an ecopoetic strategy in Kathleen Jamie’s writings on nature and place and how this works to strike a balance between the inner and outer worlds – and even transgresses the boundary between the two.
My research will focus on Jamie’s non-fiction prose works as well as poetry of nature and place from across her career. It will draw on contemporary discourses on ecopoetics and ecocriticism while also exploring the influence of traditional Romantic and Gaelic conceptions of nature on Jamie’s writings.
