Research interests

My research interests span the areas of human computer interaction, collective intelligence and software engineering. I am interested in designing experiences for new forms of interfaces that would allow the average non-technical user achieve a complicated task. Primarily, I follow empirical research approaches driven from HCI to design such experiences. Empirical research methods bring in a real human sense. However, the enormous contextual data being collected about user behavior and their networked interactions offers us a new form of intelligence that can bring innovation to HCI. Harnessing the wisdom of the crowd and machine learning techniques enable us to design contextual experiences, recommend content, predict user behavior and goals. The impact of such techniques in improving the experience for users and improving their productivity empathized the importance of collective intelligence for businesses and software innovation. I believe bringing together empirical research with mining the wisdom of the crowds can result in a different breed of software systems.  I am keen to conduct research in the following areas:

  • Designing for mobile augmented reality
  • Real-time visualizations
  • Architecting for ubiquitous access
