Research interests


Lesley Young is a curator of contemporary art based in Glasgow. She teaches on the MLitt Curatorial Practice (Contemporary Art) at Glasgow University and The Glasgow School of Art.

In 2013 she curated All That Is Solid Melts Into Air, with Jeremy Deller, for Hayward Touring, London. The exhibition toured to Manchester Art Gallery, Nottingham Castle, Nottingham, Mead Gallery, University of Warwick, Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle. The exhibition focused on representations of the Industrial Revolution, and its affect on the consciousness and culture of Britain and the development of associated events.

In 2006 she established the curatorial agency The Salford Restoration Office with James N. Hutchinson to explore and critique the visual arts infrastructure of Manchester; within the project curating exhibitions by Artur ┼╗mijewski (Cornerhouse, 2009; NGCA, Sunderland, 2010; Tramway, Glasgow 2010), Jeremy Deller’s Procession: An Exhibition (Cornerhouse, 2009), and Dan Shipsides, Radical Architecture (Castlefield, 2007); as well as developing the reading group Reading Capital, the professional development project Centrifuge for Manchester Metropolitan University and a public project with Katya Sander for The University of Manchester.

Between 2010 and 2012 she worked at The Modern Institute / Toby Webster Ltd, working closely on exhibition projects with Jeremy Deller and Luke Fowler, and producing monographs with Hayley Tompkins, Andrew Kerr, Kim Fisher and Urs Fischer & Georg Herold.

Recent project management projects include Circles of Focus, Christine Borland & Brody Condon (2012 – 2015); New Weather Coming by Jacqueline Donachie for GENERATION: 25 years of Contemporary Art in Scotland (2014) and the film work Four Sessions by Brody Condon, for Anyang Public Art Project, South Korea (2013).

In 2010 Lesley was a Selector for New Work Scotland programme Collective Gallery, Edinburgh and in 2009 was a speaker at The Curators, Witte de With, Rotterdam, publication available.
