Implementation of the EU Media Pluralism Monitor (MPM2014)

Issued: Thu, 02 Oct 2014 13:43:00 BST

Gillian Doyle participated in a workshop to exchange views on findings from a pilot test in nine EU member states of the Media Pluralism Monitor (MPM), a policy tool to identify potential risks to media pluralism and freedom of speech in the EU.  The event, which was attended by policy-makers and senior industry figures from across Europe, took place at the Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom (CMPF) in Florence, where Gillian is a member of the Scientific Committee on September 30th.  CMPF was awarded a grant from the European Commission to pilot test the monitor, check its effectiveness and make adjustments as necessary.  Participation in this workshop follows on from Gillian’s work as Quality Controller for the EU-funded study on Indicators for Media Pluralism in 2008-09 which developed the original prototype of the MPM and her subsequent role as supervisor for the 2013 study on European Union competencies in respect of media pluralism and media freedom.
