Issued: Mon, 18 Aug 2014 09:53:00 BST

Dr Minna Törmä (Lecturer in Chinese Art, SCCA) attended the biennial conference of the European Association of Chinese Studies (EACS) in Braga/Coimbra (Portugal) in July in order to make a bid to bring the 2018 conference to Glasgow. The bid was successful and the University will host one of the largest international conferences in the field of Chinese studies, representing scholars from all over Europe. Dr Törmä was also elected onto the EACS board. The conference CHINA AND THE WORLD: MAPPING EXCHANGE will take place at the University of Glasgow Wed 29th Aug - Sat 1st Sept 2018. The conference is jointly organised by the School of Culture and Creative Arts and the Scottish Centre for China Research, in collaboration with Christie’s Education London.

The ‘logo’ of the conference is the copy of a map of the world by Ferdinand Verbiest (1623-1688), produced at the court of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722). The Verbiest map is one of the star pieces in the Hunterian Museum.
