Advanced CV Imaging in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

Over the past 15 years, we have used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to better define cardiac disease in patients with chronic kidney disease, including those needing dialysis. We have demonstrated that enlargement of the heart muscle (left ventricular hypertrophy) is common, but perhaps less so than previously though.

Stroke risk in patients with kidney failure

Patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) are at increased risk of stroke and cognitive decline, although the mechanisms underpinning this are not fully understood. The timing of this increased risk suggests that factors related to treatment for ESRD (dialysis, transplantation) may be involved.
