Invitation to participate in a new weight loss and exercise study

diet exercise

A group of Sport and Exercise Science & Medicine MSc students at the University of Glasgow are conducting a randomised controlled trial called “WATCH: Weight loss And Timing of exercise – effects on Cardiometabolic Health” for MSc dissertation.

The study involves a weight loss diet plan, either on its own or in combination with a programme of exercise in the morning three times per week, or a programme of exercise in the evening three times per week. We will be investigating effects of the interventions on body weight, body composition, markers of metabolic health (e.g. insulin sensitivity), appetite regulation and circadian rhythm. The findings will help us understand whether the timing of exercise could influence its effects on overall health.

We are looking for volunteers who are aged between 18 and 45 years, are heavier than their ideal weight, don’t take regular exercise, and are looking to lose weight.  Our study is supervised by Professor Jason Gill and the study has been approved by the Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences Ethics Committee.
