Dr Who and The Silent Killer (the battle continues…)
Researchers from the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health (SCMH) organised an innovative station at ‘The Heart of the Gorbals’ which was hosted by STEMM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics Medicine) on the 14th of March 2018, St Francis Primary School, 430 Old Rutherglen Rd, Glasgow.
Dr Stefanie Lip, Dr Sara Myers, Lynn Martin, and medical students – Li En-Tan, Ben Fourie, Salil Reetoo and Caoimhe Quinn formed the new SCMH unit continuing theprevious SCMH event – Explorathon 2017 based on Dr Who.
The collaborative effort continues against aliens whose master plan for world domination is to wipe out humans by increasing their blood pressure. The team had a fun time educating over 300 school children and their parents about the blood pressure and cardiovascular risk. Three challenges were set up where participants were invited to guess salt content in foods, children were invited to measure their parents blood pressure and to pick blood pressure numbers from a raffle to assess their knowledge about blood pressure. This station was one of the busiest at the event. The team thanks Dr Saeeda Bhatti for organising the event.
