Alvin is a higher education (HE) practitioner with a solid industry background, teaching portfolio and aspiring research experience. He is passionate about developing a career in academia that combines teaching and research while maintaining his interests in public engagement with work psychology, human resource management, and broader business and management fields. He is part of the Associate Fellowship of The Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and Recognising Excellence in Teaching (AFRET) in the United Kingdom; as well as the winner of Adam Smith Business School Excellence Award, in Research and Teaching categories, for two consecutive years.

Alvin is the winner of the Southeast Asia HR Rising Star Award from HRD Asia and an SHRM - Senior Certified Professional (United States). He has personally worked with business owners and leaders, ranging from junior to very senior CXOs. Specialising in Talent Acquisition, Leadership Development, Succession Planning, Performance and Career Management, and Employee Engagement; he has over 15 years of the HR professional and leadership experiences in higher education, energy, banking, insurance, food and beverage, telecommunication, multi-finance, technology and retail industries, all in global corporations and Indonesian conglomerates. Several organisations that he has helped in the past include Citigroup, Manulife Financial and Nokia.
