Lixin Colin Xu is a lead economist of Development Research Group at the World Bank.

Lixin Colin Xu graduated from Peking University (BA, MA) in 1989, and from the University of Chicago (Ph.D) in 1996 and has been working at the World Bank since 1996. His research covers a range of applied microeconomics and development topics.

More than half of his papers are about the Chinese economy. He has published more than 50 articles in journals such as the American Economic Review, Review of Economics and Statistics, and many top field journals in finance, labour, development, growth, law and economics, organisation and comparative economic systems.

A large number of his papers are listed on the syllabus of top universities. His papers have also been selected into Edgar Reference Collection, and mentioned by The Economist, Marginal Revolution and NBER Monthly Digest. His work has been cited more than 7,300 times.
