The Adam Smith Business School welcomed Roy Leckie, Director of Walter Scott & Partners, as the first guest speaker of the 2015-16 Practitioner Seminars on Friday 2nd October. The seminar, convened by Dr Hisayuki Yoshimoto, Lecturer in Economics, was open to all Adam Smith Business School students with an interest in financial investment and related areas. Mr Leckie's presentation titled 'Global Equity Investing' discussed investment policy, the research process for making investments and the global investment environment.

Mr Roy Leckie, Director of Walter Scott & Partners Roy Leckie is a director of Edinburgh based asset management firm Walter Scott & Partners and he co-leads its 30 strong investment management group. He joined the firm in 1995 after graduating with a BSc (Honours) degree in Statistics from the University of Glasgow. Roy was appointed to the board in 2008. Prior to university Roy attended Fettes College in Edinburgh.

Walter Scott is a fundamental, long term, benchmark unaware, long-only global equity investment manager. The firm manages concentrated portfolios for institutional clients around the world. Assets under management total $70bn. Roy grew up in Hong Kong and has maintained a strong interest in investing in Asia throughout his career. Roy travels extensively to undertake investment research and also to meet with the firm’s clients. He has particular experience of investing in Japan.
Roy is a keen sportsman, and having retired from playing rugby enjoys swimming, running, hillwalking, skiing, tennis and playing squash. He represented Hong Kong at age group level in both swimming and rugby, and in 2013 Roy completed the iconic Hellespont swim from Asia to Europe. Roy is married with two children and has enjoyed extensive travel with his family. He is involved in a variety of charities, is a Patron of the National Library of Scotland and is a member of the New Club.
