An Introduction to Financial Markets with Paul Shanta from Ingis Group

On 9th December 2014, the Adam Smith Business School the School is pleased to welcome Mr Paul Shanta from Ingis Group as the next speaker of the Practitioner Seminar Series.

The seminar is open to students studying Economics and Accounting & Finance and will be based around an introduction to financial markets and the main operators within the industry, with a particular focus on government bond markets. Paul is an expert in trading Fixed Income derivatives and will happily expand on this area.

Registration is not required

The aim of the seminar is to give the students a better understanding of how financial markets are made up and of the opportunities that exist within the industry. The goal is to help them understand where they might fit into the different sub sectors and give them some background knowledge that will help them better frame their application when it comes time to pursuing a career.

The seminar should last approximately one hour which will be followed by a question and answer session. Students are encouraged to think of questions to ask at the end of the presentation and Paul will endeavour to answer as many as possible.

Paul Shanta is a senior portfolio manager of Global Absolute Return Portfolio's. He is currently in a transition from Ignis Asset Management where he co-managed a large Global Macro Absolute Return Fund and other Government bond portfolios to Old Mutual where he will fulfil a similar role. Paul graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a degree in Maths, Statistics and Finance. Upon completing his penultimate year at University he worked as an Intern for JP Morgan in London focusing on Convertible Bond Trading. Paul is a CFA charter holder.
