The 2019 Nakahara Prize has been awarded to Professor of Economics Takashi Hayashi, in recognition of his contribution to the fundamental issues in microeconomic theory.

The Nakahara Prize is an annual award given by the Japanese Economic Association to Japanese economists under the age of 45 whose work has gained international recognition.

His research centres on decision theory, social choice and general equilibrium/demand theory and Professor Hayashi is one of the leading decision theorists in his cohort.

Professor Hayashi said: “I feel honoured to be added to the list of Japan’s leading economists, and to serve as a University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School ambassador to the community of Japanese economists and audiences.”
