Students London GUTIC banking tour 2017

Twenty-five members of the Glasgow University Trading & Investment Club (GUTIC) recently visited London, the financial hub of Europe, as part of the London Banking Tour.

The annual tour introduced students to the career options within the financial industry including trading, investment banking and wealth management, enabling them to enhance their career prospects.

During their visit students met senior leaders and Glasgow alumni working in firms including Deloitte, Barclays, Morgan Stanley, Coutts, Cantor Fitzgerald and Jefferies.

They spent time with Alan Bertie, Managing Director at Jefferies; Tariq Hussain, Head of European M&A at Jefferies; Sumangala Manghat, Director of Asian and African Investment Banking at Coutts; Catherine Davidson, Managing Director of Government Relations at Morgan Stanley; and Sergei Konychev, Executive Director of Legal & Compliance at Morgan Stanley.

The event, which is growing in popularity, provides GUTIC students with opportunities to network and develop relationships with future employers and helps them stand out amongst their peers when competing for a job.

Out of the students who attended the tour last year 11 have had graduate job offers, 10 have been on summer internships and one student has undertaken a week’s work experience with the firms they were introduced to.
