Glasgow and Nankai collaborate for workshop on Chinese economy.

The Adam Smith Business School, together with the Collaborative Innovation Centre on the Chinese Economy (CICCE) at Nankai University, successfully hosted an Economics workshop in the University of Glasgow in September 2017. The academic event between the two institutions was held to disseminate the latest research with a long-term aim to stimulate innovation and tackle economic problems faced by China.

This event follows two previous workshops – one in March 2014 in Glasgow, and a second in October 2015 in Nankai.

Vice-Principal of Nankai University, Professor Zhu Guanglei, joined the opening of the workshop, and gave an encouraging speech and his support to the development of Nankai-Glasgow collaboration. Head of Adam Smith Business School, Professor John Finch, and Head of Economics subject, Professor John Tsoukalas, also spoke to give their support to this event.

Professor John Knight from the University of Oxford gave an insightful keynote speech on China’s evolving income inequality. Seven Nankai speakers came and presented their work, including

  • Professor Dianchun Jiang (Vice Dean, School of Economics)
  • Professor Jiuli Huang (Department of International Business)
  • Professor Guangjie Ning (Department of Economics)
  • Professor Baowei Li (Department of Economics)
  • Dr ZhiQiang Zhang (Institute of Urban and Regional Economics)
  • Dr Guangsu ZHOU (Department of Economics)
  • Dr Hua Hu (Department of Public Finance).

And four Glasgow Economics lecturers participated in and presented their latest research papers, including

  • Dr Sai Ding
  • Dr Minjoo Kim
  • Dr Hisayuki Yoshimoto
  • Dr Wenya Cheng.

Topics they spoke about included international trade, productivity, labour markets, finance and inequality.
