The successful series of lunchtime Business Briefings returns this Autumn with the first event taking place on Tuesday 2 October.

It will feature Prof Sayantan Ghosal, Professor of Economics and Dean of Interdisciplinary and Impact. Sayantan’s work focuses on inclusive development and at the event, he will share the findings from his research on Dream Building workshops.

In particular, he will discuss the positive impact that cultivating hope and aspiration among marginalised communities can have in tackling poverty. The Dream Building workshops he uses in his research are a psychological training programme aimed at improving self-image negatively impacted by social stigma.

The research, conducted in India, revealed significant positive findings, where women who participated in the workshops demonstrated positive future-oriented financial decisions and showed positive outcomes on both wellbeing indicators and health-seeking behaviours.

The Business Briefing events are organised by Dr Thomas Boysen Anker, Senior Lecturer, Business Management in collaboration with University of Glasgow students.

Dr Anker said: The idea of the briefings is that the Adam Smith Business School is a community of professionals united by a passion for discussing business and society. Our aim is to enable a greater sense of belongingness to this community by showcasing our best research.

“We do this through interviews and conversations that give research staff an opportunity to discuss current business affairs closely related to their own research, in a format that is more engaging, informal, inquisitive, curious and conversational than traditional talks and lectures.”

The events are open to all Adam Smith Business School students and staff.
