Glasgow MBA students excel in real life consultancy project

MBA students were recognised as outstanding at this year’s Professor Raymond Miquel Enterprise Initiative
MBA students were recognised as outstanding at this year’s Professor Raymond Miquel Enterprise Initiative for their work to develop recommendations for a project brief set by companies including Monty Bojangles, Velux, Glenrothes and the Department For International Development (DFID).
In the week-long consultancy challenge, MBA students worked in groups acting as consultants for local and international client companies.
Students were divided into eight teams to respond to a brief and combine insights and theories developed on the MBA programme with real life experience. They worked together to analyse the client’s data, and develop recommendations and plans.
The projects were commended by Professor Miquel in a special lunch to mark the end of the challenge, where he presented winning teams with a trophy.
This year saw winning team Sharron Morrow, Stefanie Nathania, Elizabeth Gomez and Pengcheng Peng, pick up the Professor Raymond Miquel trophy for their project on ‘Is the AMP project management tool customer led or user led?’ for the Department For International Development.
Jason Currie, Senior Business Analyst Department For International Development, said: “The MBA students brought a level of enthusiasm with them that carried throughout the project, and was reflected in the quality of work they produced. I’m delighted to see their hard work and has endeavour paid off. It was a very positive experience and has provided a great value for the organisation, allowing us to take forward some of their recommendations for our annual review process.”
MBA student Elizabeth Gomez said: “It was a great experience. We had several meetings with DFID and gained a deep understanding of what they wanted to achieve which informed what we as a team needed to do. We assessed different issues and performance and made recommendations.”
Professor Raymond Miquel was the Chief Executive of Arthur Bell and Sons Scotch Whisky, and chairman and managing director of Lees Foods. He is an Honorary Professor at the University of Glasgow and has served on the Business School Advisory Board. He sponsors the Raymond Miquel Teaching Fellowship in Entrepreneurial Management. He further invested in the Adam Smith Business School by way of sponsorship to establish The Professor Raymond Miquel Enterprise Initiative, to recognise and support employability and enterprise on the MBA programme.
