Thirty postgraduate Business School students joined academics and students from other universities to enjoy a unique opportunity to put their questions to international trade experts at a Board of Trade, Global Trade and Investment Seminar, in Stirling Castle this week.

The event, chaired by the Secretary of State for International Trade, Rt Hon Dr Liam Fox MP, enabled the students to join the debate on the future of free international trade.

It included an opportunity for students to hear about trade, investment and marketing first-hand from government officials, business experts and academia and also network with them afterwards.

The Board of Trade supports UK exports, attracts inward investors and ensures the benefits of free trade are spread equally across the country.

As part of the event, Dr Margaret Fletcher and Dr Paul Ferri from the Adam Smith Business School hosted a session on ‘Internationalisation of Companies - Doing International Business’ to demonstrate how the School’s research, teaching and business engagement prepares students and supports local businesses to compete successfully in the international market place.

Dr Margaret Fletcher, Senior Lecturer, International Business, Adam Smith Business School said: "We are delighted to support this very important and innovative initiative in Scotland. It provides an excellent learning opportunity for students, and supports the promotion of a culture of exporting and international business. It aims to help ensure the UK is constantly striving to become a nation of confident exporters and international trade experts with a solid understanding of the importance of international business."

Dr Paul Ferri, Senior Lecturer, International Business and Entrepreneurship said: "Our involvement at this Board of Trade event is a great example of how the Business School’s postgraduate students benefit from engaging with decision makers at the highest level.

"Our MSc in International Business and Entrepreneurship (IBE), supports Scottish businesses to internationalise. As part of their course, students undertake a challenging, organisation-based project that provides real-life experience of consulting with and advising companies who wish to grow globally - this provides real value to external business clients."
