Jim Mather, Former MSP and Member of Sustainable Growth Commission is our third guest of the 2018/2019 Business Briefings. Jim discussed the role of enterprise in Scotland’s economic renaissance. Business Briefings are hosted by Moa Schafer, joint MA Hons Business & Management and Psychology student, and Thomas Anker, Head of Management.
Jim Mather is a member of the Sustainable Growth Commission which assesses projections for Scotland’s economy under different potential governance scenarios. The Commission has developed the economic case for potential Scottish independence. Jim Mather was a member of the Scottish Parliament from 2003-2011 and Minister for Enterprise, Energy & Tourism in the SNP Administration 2007–11 before standing down in 2011. Since then he has fulfilled chairmanship roles with Gael Limited and Homes for Scotland and chaired the Scottish Government’s Working Together Review in 2014. Jim Mather is a chartered accountant, who worked for IBM before establishing the ComputerLand franchise in Scotland in 1983. He now teaches, as a visiting professor at Heriot-Watt University, and fulfils other consultancy and non-executive roles.
