The Rise of Fintech
Technology now permeates every aspect of our lives, from shopping to socialising, and smartphone technology, in particular, is transforming the way that we interact with day-to-day services. The now well-established tech 'start-ups' of the past few decades have more recently been joined by a new cadre of tech-savvy innovators focusing their energies on disrupting and improving the financial services sector.

Fintech, or financial technology, describes the activities of a wide range of companies who use software to provide financial services and whose potential to disrupt existing financial models and corporations has been widely reported. Between 2010-2015 investment in global fintech companies rose tenfold to its current level of over $20 billion.

In association with our new Adam Smith Business School 'Creative and Disruptive Technologies in Contemporary Environment' course, the Glasgow University Trading and Investment Club, the Glasgow University FinTech Society and CoSS Employability, we have brought together a panel of Fintech start-up founders, innovators and investors to discuss the potential for this new industry to revolutionise the way we access financial services and to transform the financial services sector itself. Our speakers will share their personal stories of building and mentoring new fintech companies and discuss the challenges of achieving market share and growth.

This event will be chaired by Ramona Blanes from the Adam Smith Business School and will provide students with opportunities to ask their own questions about our speakers' previous career paths, career challenges, and the opportunities that may exist for our current students interested working in this emerging industry. Following the panel discussion, there will be a networking session, complete with complimentary refreshments, providing you with the chance to personally meet our speakers and other attendees.
