Adam Smith Business School alumnus appointed as Chairman of Standard Life Aberdeen

Adam Smith Business School alumnus, Sir Douglas Flint (Bachelor of Accountancy, 1977), has been appointed to succeed Sir Gerry Grimstone as Chairman of Edinburgh-based global investment company, Standard Life Aberdeen, effective as of 1 January 2019.

Prior to his appointment by Standard Life Aberdeen, Sir Douglas served as HSBC’s Group Chairman until 2017 and is currently the Chancellor’s Special Envoy for China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
Sir Douglas has enjoyed an illustrious career, spending 18 years with Peat Marwick/KPMG, culminating in being made a Partner in 1988. In 1995, Sir Douglas was appointed as Group Finance Director of HSBC, a post he held for 15 years, before his appointment as Group Chairman in December 2010.

Sir Douglas is an active supporter of the University of Glasgow. He is a member of the Campaign Leadership Board, established to support the University’s ambitious campus re-development project. He was also the keynote speaker at the recent BAcc 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner, attended by over 250 alumni, staff and friends.
