What Do Economists Do?
On Tuesday 13th June 2023 the Economics department at the Adam Smith Business School will hold an outreach event with local schools.
We would like to invite you to participate in a session on “What do Economists do?”, which was the most popular part of the event last year. We aim to have a broad range of economists at different stages of their career trajectories (current students, recent graduates, experienced colleagues) to share their journeys with the schools, and so to inform, inspire and enthuse young people about Economics.
As you may be aware there is a distinct lack of diversity in the Economics profession, and many companies/institutions are making efforts to attract a more diverse workforce. For our part, the University of Glasgow is striving to attract greater diversity in our Economics students – your future colleagues. You may be aware that only a small proportion of secondary schools in Scotland offer Economics as a subject choice, and as such young people report having little knowledge of the career opportunities available to them in Economics. The event aims to fill this information gap. In addition, the team are particularly interested in hearing from alumni who may have attended a local school, as this may be of special interest to the students.
The Economics Department would like to invite our alumni to participate in the session on Tuesday 13th June 2023, from 12-2pm (including lunch!). You are of course welcome to participate in the full day of activities, including an active learning session in the morning and the Annual Public Lecture of the Royal Economic Society in the afternoon.
For more information, and to register your interest in attending, please email us at business-alumni@glasgow.ac.uk.
