Pat graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1991 and stayed on for 2 years to work as a House Surgeon. She developed an interest in anaesthesia, obtaining the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia in 1993. For the following 4 years she was involved in vascular research in the Department of Veterinary Pharmacology in Glasgow, culminating in the award of a Ph.D. In 1998 Pat moved to University College Dublin and was appointed as a Clinical Lecturer in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. She gained her European Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia & Analgesia in 2000. Pat returned to Glasgow in 2003 and is currently a Senior Clinician in Veterinary Anaesthesia. She has a clinical interest in all aspects of small animal analgesia and is currently conducting research into the vascular effects of haemoglobin-based oxygen-carrying solutions.
