Alexander Ogilvie Postgraduate Scholarship in Scottish History

This scholarship is awarded annually to a student who has already accepted a place to study Scottish History within the School of Humanities at the University of Glasgow at postgraduate level in academic session 2024-25, and who is not otherwise in receipt of funding.

The terms and conditions are as follows:

  1. One scholarship shall be awarded:
    1. to a student who has already accepted the offer to undertake study for the taught postgraduate degree of MSc in Scottish History,
    2. AND to a student who has already accepted the offer to undertake study for the research degree of PhD or MPhil or MRes in Scottish History, within the School of Humanities at the University of Glasgow.
  2. Students already in receipt of an award which covers the full cost of the fees for the degree concerned will not be eligible to apply.
  3. The scholarship will be used in the first instance towards fees. If the student uses personal finances to cover the cost of fees, then the scholarship can be used as a stipend..
  4. The scholarship may be awarded to a Home, EU or International student.
  5. The scholarship shall be made primarily on the basis of academic merit and motivation. Weight may also being given to the level of financial need where this is possible to evidence.
  6. The award of the scholarship shall be made by the Chair in Scottish History and/or the Chair’s nominees.

Value

The scholarship shall consist of a sum of approximately £1,800, to be paid in a single instalment at the commencement of the academic year for which the award is made

How to apply

Candidates wishing to apply should submit the following:

  • the full applications they made for postgraduate study in Scottish History within the School of Humanities at the University of Glasgow, including current CV and two academic references 
  • evidence of acceptance of the offer to undertake postgraduate study in Scottish History within the School of Humanities at the University of Glasgow
  • a personal statement of no more than 500 words setting out the applicant’s research interests in Scottish History
