Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship Support for the CVR

CVR Postdoc Dr Margus Varjak has been awarded The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship. This will allow Margus to continue his research into project where he aims to understand the proteins that are involved in the piRNA pathway and how they contribute to the antiviral mechanism of mosquitoes.

Fast track Bluetongue vaccine could save millions for the European Economy

Scientists have developed a faster method of producing an effective vaccine for the devastating animal disease caused by Bluetongue virus (BTV); a virus that has infected and killed thousands of livestock throughout the world. In a study published in the Journal of Virology, CVR researchers, in collaboration with Merial Animal Health describe a new and cost effective method that allows the production of a reliable type of inactivated vaccine using a “synthetic biology” approach.

Researchers at the Medical Research Council (MRC) - University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research, in collaboration with colleagues at the Institut Pasteur, France, have identified a pathway in the mosquito that could be targeted to prevent transmission of Chikungunya virus.
