Collaborations with the University of Edinburgh

Twice a year there is a joint symposium with the BHF 4year Programme at the University of Edinburgh, one at the University of Glasgow  and one at Edinburgh University. These meetings are organised by the students and you are encouraged to present your work in either poster or oral format. These meetings will enable you to extend your network of scientific context.

Research Opportunities at the University of Edinburgh

The Cardiovascular Research Centres at the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh have overlapping areas of research expertise. For the first time, we are giving you the opportunity to undertake periods of research at The University of Edinburgh. The programme will underwrite the costs associated with travel. Professor Matthew Bailey, the Director of Edinburgh’s programme, has been invited to speak to you about their research during the introductory week.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to widen your research knowledge and gain experience of another high-quality research environment. For more information please visit their website:

If you wish to develop a collaborative project between the two Universities for your main PhD please contact Professor Andrew Baker or Godfrey Smith for more details about this.
