A Very Early Rehabilitation Trial (AVERT)
AVERT is an international multicentre randomised controlled trial comparing very early mobilisation (starting mobilisation within 24 hours of stroke) with normal care in the stroke unit. The trial was established and led from the National Stroke Research Institute in Melbourne, Australia. It is currently recruiting from 50 centres around the world of which over 20 have been established in the UK and are managed by the UK trial office (with support from Chest, Heart and Stroke, Scotland, the Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke Association and The Stroke Association). AVERT is currently recruiting in Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand and is expected to complete in 2015.
