ICAMS hosts leading researchers in vascular cognitive impairment

In ICAMS we have a proud tradition of exploring the consequences of vascular disease in renal, cardiac and other vascular beds. More recently we have been creating capacity in the under-researched area of vascular cognitive impairment (VCI).
ICAMS researchers Dr Lorraine Work and Dr Terry Quinn are developing a program of work looking to improve methodology in pre-clinical models of VCI. This project draws on the team’s experience in translational stroke research and outcome assessment in stroke trials.
Supported by a grant from Alzheimer’s Research UK and under the auspices of Dementia Platforms UK, Lorraine and Terry convened a meeting of the leading UK researchers in pre-clinical VCI research.
The British Heart Foundation building hosted some lively debate as Lorraine and Terry shared their recent work looking at issues in the design, conduct and reporting of VCI research. The session generated methodological guidance that will raise standards in future VCI research. It is hoped this is the beginning of a fruitful collaboration between clinical and pre-clinical ICAMS researchers. Already further grants and papers in the VCI field have been submitted and more will follow. Watch this space….
