Professor Roger Wong from Vancouver, Canada, visited the Academic Section of Geriatrics at the New Lister Building in Glasgow Royal Infirmary on 31st May. He gave an inspirational talk on Improving Acute Care for Older People: Lessons from Canada.
He has led in developing the acute geriatrics programme in British Columbia, promoting the benefits and cost-savings of this approach to care. His vision for the future embraced new technologies such as telehealth, use of electronic health records and decision support systems, as well as emphasising the potential benefits from integrating research into clinical care with ‘omics’ and health informatics (big data).
