Athena SWAN in ICAMS

Strategic Aims

Academics, researchers, administrative staff and students in the Institute of Cardiovascular & Medical Sciences (ICAMS) are working to identify key career transition points, and to enhance career development for all staff. The Athena SWAN self-assessment team (SAT) is leading this work, and is embedded in the management structure of ICAMS (Figure) to ensure maximal impact and translation.  As part of our process ICAMS identified areas of specific concerns to staff through a staff survey in April/May 2015. The response rate was 79% indicting a high level of engagement in the institute. The SAT has established 4 subcommittees to focus in detail on areas where we wish to make continual improvements.

These are:

  • Career development and mentoring
  • HR policies
  • Parental policies
  • Web content and dissemination
